China's software and IT services industry generated revenue of 6,245.1 billion yuan in the first five months of 2026, representing a year-on-year increase of 10.3%, according to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Total profit reached 717.3 billion yuan, up 2.2% year-on-year, with growth showing a slower pace. Software exports totaled 27.65 billion USD, a 12.8% increase.

Information technology services remained the dominant sector, with revenue of 4,276.1 billion yuan, up 11.3% and accounting for 68.5% of total industry revenue. Within this sector, cloud computing and big data services generated 703.2 billion yuan, an increase of 12.1%; integrated circuit design revenue was 175.9 billion yuan, up 19.2%; and e-commerce platform technical services earned 459.1 billion yuan, up 5.1%.

Software product revenue grew steadily to 1,360.8 billion yuan, a 6.9% increase and representing 21.8% of the total. Basic software products generated 80.9 billion yuan, up 10.0%, while industrial software products brought in 123.7 billion yuan, an increase of 8.6%.

Information security products and services revenue was 110.2 billion yuan, growing 6.5%, and embedded system software revenue reached 497.9 billion yuan, up 12.5%.

Regionally, software business revenue in the eastern region rose 10.5%, accounting for 84.7% of the national total; the central region grew 12.9%; the western region grew 8.8%; and the northeastern region grew 5.9%. Among key areas, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region posted a 9.9% increase, contributing 26.1% of the national total, while the Yangtze River Delta region grew 11.6%, with a 30.6% share.

By city/province, Beijing, Guangdong, Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Shandong ranked as the top five for software business revenue, with year-on-year growth rates of 10.0%, 10.7%, 12.1%, 11.0%, and 8.6%, respectively.
