Over 80 representatives from 18 member countries attended the first senior officials meeting of the Belt and Road Energy Partnership in 2026 in Beijing. The meeting was organized by China's National Energy Administration, with addresses by Iran's Deputy Energy Minister Taztalab, Cuba's Ambassador to China Bai Shide, and NEA Chief Engineer Liu Deshun.

The partnership secretariat reported on work progress and second-half plans, presenting the council formation proposal and initial arrangements for the 4th ministerial conference. Member country delegates shared national energy developments, recognized the partnership's role in promoting practical cooperation, and offered suggestions for improving the mechanism.

The meeting focused on building consensus on the council and preparing for the ministerial conference, refining operational plans, and strengthening platform mechanisms. The goal was to lay a foundation for the 4th Belt and Road Energy Ministerial Conference to be held in Qingdao this November.

Representatives from the Shandong Energy Bureau, Qingdao Development and Reform Commission, secretariat office, and leaders of cooperation network working groups also participated.
