Changjiangyuan Village, located in the southern suburbs of Golmud, Qinghai Province, is a community of ecologically relocated herders. A collective economic cooperative was established in 2020, and since then the village's collective income has surpassed one million yuan, with annual per capita disposable income exceeding 38,000 yuan.
The herders originally lived in the Tuotuo River area of the Tanggula Mountains, 420 kilometers away at an average altitude of 4,700 meters. In November 2004, 128 households from six pastoral villages moved to the current site as part of the Sanjiangyuan ecological protection effort. The settlement was named Changjiangyuan Village in 2006.
After relocation, the village set up a regular ecological stewardship system, with one steward per household responsible for patrolling 5.01 million mu of grazing-ban grasslands, vegetation restoration, river cleaning, and wildlife protection. Since then, degraded pastures have gradually recovered, the water quality of the Tuotuo River has remained good, and animals like Tibetan antelopes and wild asses are seen more frequently.
For industry, the village committees and work teams adopted a 'one village, one product' approach, leveraging Tanggula yaks and Tibetan sheep to develop deep processing of green livestock products and rural tourism. Through online promotion and market linkages, the products have gained market recognition.
Cultural heritage is also advancing. Fifteen-year-old Danzeng Luobu has collected over 180 folk tunes, and his mother founded a handicraft cooperative producing distinctive pastoral products such as pulu blankets and wuduo, which are sold to many places.
In village governance, a weekly cleaning rule and a 'love points supermarket' were established through a deliberative process, encouraging resident participation in environmental maintenance. The village now has 67 Party members, with younger members bringing new ideas for development.
