The National Energy Administration and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment have issued a notice announcing the establishment of the “Green Nuclear” Nuclear Power Science Popularization Cooperation Platform. The platform is designed to implement directives on science popularization, strengthen public communication about nuclear power and safety, and foster a supportive social environment for nuclear development.

The platform was initiated by the China Nuclear Power Development Center, the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and the Chinese Nuclear Society. Four enterprises—China National Nuclear Corporation, China Huaneng Group, State Power Investment Corporation, and China General Nuclear Power Group—serve as the main entities. The notice specifies that the platform will also include relevant nuclear industry enterprises, universities, research institutes, academic associations, and media to form an industry coordination mechanism. An office established across the three initiating organizations handles daily operations.

The platform’s primary tasks include four areas: first, consolidating brand synergy by releasing annual industry science popularization plans, introducing a unified theme and key activities, and organizing coordinated events on important dates such as National Security Education Day and National Science Popularization Month, while promoting resource sharing among members. Second, expanding communication channels by disseminating best practices, promoting regular nuclear science popularization in government agencies and schools, increasing public access to nuclear bases and research facilities, and developing study programs and industrial tourism routes. Third, enhancing content planning by building a science popularization resource database, establishing a regular promotional collaboration mechanism, leveraging official websites and media platforms to promote outstanding science works, and creating high-quality content tied to major technological innovations and project milestones. Fourth, strengthening talent support by encouraging joint training among members, organizing instructor training and skill competitions, fostering university–industry cooperation, supporting student volunteer services, and establishing an industry expert pool for media engagement.

The platform convenes an annual plenary meeting, rotated among the four main entities. The office holds regular meetings to review progress and coordinate tasks. The notice is dated June 4, 2026, and was jointly issued by the General Office of the National Energy Administration and the General Office of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
