During his visit to Japan, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang showed up on the evening of July 15 at a grilled pork skewer izakaya near JR Kanda Station in Tokyo's Chiyoda ward. He spent about two hours talking with executives from Japanese business partners and proposed, 'Let's revitalize Japan's semiconductor industry together.'
Huang, wearing his signature leather jacket, entered the red-lantern-decorated establishment after walking down a narrow alley. Upon arrival, he was greeted with applause and initiated a toast. The gathering included executives from major Japanese materials companies, and it was an occasion to deepen friendships.
According to attendees, topics included 'revitalizing [the semiconductor and other] industries together so that stock prices keep rising.' An executive from a large electronics firm said he felt Huang's strong conviction to change the world through artificial intelligence.
Huang enjoyed grilled pork skewers, beef offal hot pot, and Japanese whiskey. The party ended after 9 p.m. During the event, he stepped outside to see off early departures and distributed sweet red bean buns and bottled drinks to photographers and other media personnel gathered there.
Earlier that day, Huang had attended an Nvidia event in Tokyo for engineers and stressed in a media interview the importance of building relationships with Japanese companies. He highlighted Japan's role as a cluster of semiconductor material suppliers. The izakaya dinner continues his practice of dining with business partner executives at local eateries in key supplier hubs such as South Korea and Taiwan.
