The National Mine Safety Administration has published the second batch of typical coal mine enforcement cases for 2026, selecting three incidents.
The three cases occurred between April and May 2026, discovered by the Heilongjiang, Yunnan, and Guizhou bureaus during inspections, complaint verifications, and gas exceedance checks. All involved the major hazard of deliberately causing methane sensor failure.
In April, the Heilongjiang bureau found during an inspection that the methane sensor in a heading face had been moved into an air duct, rendering it ineffective. The mine's safety management and training were deemed perfunctory.
In the same period, the Yunnan bureau verified a tip and discovered that a mine had falsified drawings and concealed a heading face in production. The mine was accused of deliberate deception to evade supervision, leading to uncontrolled safety risks.
In May, the Guizhou bureau investigated a gas exceedance at a coal and gas outburst mine and found that the methane sensor in a mining face had been moved to the roadway floor, causing failure. The mine had chaotic safety management and inadequate training.
In accordance with the "Criteria for Determining Major Hazards in Coal Mines" and the "Regulations on Coal Mine Safety Production," all three mines were ordered to suspend operations, and financial penalties were imposed on the mines and responsible persons. Additionally, the relevant leads were transferred to local public security authorities.
