China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment has made the latest deployment on work safety within its system. On July 14, Huang Runqiu, Minister and head of the ministry's work safety leading group, chaired the group's third plenary (enlarged) meeting in 2026, focusing on key safety tasks in the ecological environment field and the ministry's system.
The meeting called for thorough study and implementation of General Secretary Xi Jinping's recent important instructions on work safety and flood control. It noted that these instructions demonstrate a people-first and life-first commitment and provide fundamental guidance for related work. The ministry's system was asked to fully implement the decisions and deployments of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, and to advance the three-year action plan for tackling root causes of work safety in the ecological environment system.
The meeting stressed that recent multiple safety accidents and severe natural disasters in some regions reflect a still grave and complex safety situation. The ministry's system needs to coordinate ecological and environmental protection with safety requirements with a high sense of responsibility and action force, handle sudden environmental incidents promptly and scientifically, and ensure ecological and environmental safety during the flood season. The meeting also required preventing and resolving major sensitive environmental risks and continuously strengthening nuclear and radiation safety regulation.
Vice Ministers Guo Fang and Xu Bijiu, members of the ministry's Party Leadership Group, attended the meeting. The meeting was held in a combination of online and offline formats, with principal officials of member units of the leading group attending at the main venue and those of dispatched agencies and affiliated institutions attending via video link at sub-venues. The meeting also proposed consolidating safety responsibilities, conducting comprehensive self-inspection and rectification of risks and hidden dangers to achieve dynamic zeroing of safety issues, and widely carrying out safety education to enhance safety awareness.
The meeting reiterated that work safety is of paramount importance and must not be relaxed for a moment, requiring a focus on key areas and key links to continuously improve the level of safety management.
