According to the latest statistics from the Traffic Management Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security, by the end of June 2026, China's vehicle fleet reached 476 million units, of which 371 million were cars. The number of motor vehicle drivers stood at 567 million, with car drivers accounting for 94.04% at 533 million.

In the first half of 2026, a total of 15.81 million motor vehicles were newly registered nationwide. This included 10.51 million new car registrations and 5.11 million new motorcycle registrations.

The share of new energy vehicles continued to rise. By the end of June, the NEV fleet had grown to 48.97 million units, representing 13.19% of the total car fleet, up 2.92 percentage points year-on-year. Battery electric vehicles numbered 33.675 million units, accounting for 68.77% of the NEV total.

New registration data further highlighted the NEV trend. In the first half of the year, 5.195 million NEVs were newly registered, accounting for 49.42% of new car registrations, up 4.45 percentage points from a year earlier.

In the used car sector, reform impacts continued to show. A total of 18.52 million motor vehicle transfers were processed nationwide in H1, including 17.05 million car transfers. There were 3.45 million cross-region transactions for used passenger cars, a year-on-year increase of 11.98%.

On the driver side, 13.04 million new driver's licenses were issued in the first half, a 3.66% year-on-year increase.

Facing sustained growth in online service demand, local traffic management authorities promoted online renewal of driver's licenses and vehicle registration certificates, as well as issuance of temporary plates. In H1, 55.66 million such online transactions were processed, up 3.17% year-on-year.
