China's Surface Water Quality Hit Record High in 2025 with 91.4% Rated Good

Ministry of Ecology and Environment official Jiang Huohua announced at a June press briefing that the share of surface water rated at or above Grade III nationally reached 91.4% in 2025, while the share below Grade V fell to 0.6%, both the best on record. The rate in the Yangtze Economic Belt rose from 67% in 2015 to 96.5%, with the main stream maintaining Class II for six straight years. From January to May this year, the national rate stood at 88.0%, up 2.4 percentage points year on year.

Multiple large renewable energy projects commissioned amid summer demand peak, with national installed capacity exceeding 2.4 billion kilowatts

As summer began, renewable energy projects in Hainan, Sichuan, and Jiangsu were commissioned successively, covering offshore wind, hydropower, and solar-hydrogen-storage integration. By end-April, national renewable energy installed capacity exceeded 2.4 billion kW, accounting for 60.5% of total power capacity. The National Energy Administration and experts believe this will strengthen energy supply and promote economic development.
