China and Bangladesh have decided to elevate their bilateral relations to a new level.
On the morning of June 26, President Xi Jinping met with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tariq, who was on an official visit to China, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The two leaders jointly announced the building of a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era.
During the meeting, Xi expressed that China highly values its relations with Bangladesh and adheres to a good-neighborliness policy for all the Bangladeshi people. He stressed that no matter how the international situation evolves, China will stick to the major direction of China-Bangladesh friendship and remain Bangladesh's trustworthy good friend, good neighbor, and good partner. Xi pointed out that China supports Bangladesh in upholding its national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and opposes external interference. China is willing to enhance exchanges of governance experience, strengthen interactions at all levels, deepen strategic communication, consolidate political mutual trust, and continue to support each other on issues concerning core interests and major concerns.
In terms of practical cooperation, Xi said that China supports the new Bangladeshi government in smooth governance and is ready to work with Bangladesh on high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, deeply align development strategies, and orderly plan key cooperative projects. The two sides will explore cooperation potential in green low-carbon development, the digital economy, information technology, artificial intelligence, and other fields, and carry out exchanges in medical care, culture, education, and at sub-national levels. They will also advance the building of the China-Myanmar-Bangladesh economic corridor and strengthen regional connectivity. Xi added that China is ready to strengthen communication and collaboration with Bangladesh in multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, to jointly promote an equal and orderly multi-polar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, and to better safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of both countries and the common interests of the Global South.
Tariq congratulated the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, saying that China is a great country and has always occupied an important position in Bangladesh's foreign policy. He expressed happiness at the elevation of bilateral relations to the new level of a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era, and regarded Chinese-style modernization as a model for Bangladesh to learn from. Bangladesh hopes to strengthen party-to-party exchanges, jointly build the Belt and Road, and enhance cooperation and exchanges in trade, connectivity, agriculture, science and technology, green energy, education, health, and other fields, to help Bangladesh achieve modernization. Tariq clearly stated that Bangladesh firmly adheres to the one-China principle, considers that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, opposes any form of "Taiwan independence," and resolutely upholds the authority of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758. He noted that the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind and the four global initiatives put forward by President Xi are of great significance to maintaining world peace and development and international fairness and justice, and Bangladesh fully supports them and is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China in international and regional affairs to jointly safeguard the fruits of the victory of World War II and the international order with the United Nations at its core.
