A senior Chinese finance official told an international conference on sovereign debt that the debt difficulties of developing countries can only be fundamentally resolved through multilateral cooperation and a development perspective.
On June 24, 2026, the Paris Club held the 13th annual meeting of the Paris Forum in Paris, France. Discussions covered historical experience and future outlook on sovereign debt treatment. China's Vice Minister of Finance, Liao Min, attended and spoke at the meeting.
In his remarks, Liao Min highlighted that China attaches great importance to developing country debt issues and has made positive contributions to helping these countries alleviate debt pressure. He called on all parties to practice multilateralism, adhere to a development viewpoint, and jointly help developing countries fundamentally resolve debt issues.
During the forum, Liao Min attended a ministerial luncheon hosted by French Minister of Economy and Finance Lescure. He separately met with Dumont, Director General of the Treasury of the French Ministry of Economy and Finance; Ruzicka, Deputy Secretary-General of the OECD; Scarpetta, Chief Economist of the OECD; Pablo, Vice President of the World Bank; and Zedan, Director of the IMF's Africa Department.
They exchanged views on issues of common concern, including global economic imbalances, China-France bilateral economic relations, industrial subsidies, and African country debt.
